"Name" means the name of a ship. "DIYPaintLoc" is used for filling in the name of your paint picture (file suffixes must be included). "Enabled" indicates whether the current paint is being used. "0" means it is currently disabled and "1" means it has been enabled. When enabled, the ship’s paint will be changed to the one you configured. You´ll need to restart the Game after it.
here I want add following: First: it was a good translation from the original text to english. 2nd: today 2017 I will add there some knowledge what was missed by start that thread in 2015
There are much more areas into the super structure and all these have effect on the diffrent ship hulls and decks. Every single qube into the superstructure have a diffrent area at the diffrent ship types !
To manipulate this I will advice "notepad++" (This was already mentioned here: freeware & save) also CS2 from Adobe Photoshop (freeware).
Notepad++ use to change the .xml file clean for activate/deactivate your special 2D-Skin of the various ships (Kongo w/e) - this is with fill in your special name of the jpg or PNG - use PNG to get better graphic results.
In PS-CS2 you can highlight every single area into that 2D map to change it with structure, or your own colors or paint-structure (also photos w/e).
The structure in the right corner at the top for example will change the top main level of the support platforms at the heck side of Atlanta...so every qube of the turquise "Superstructure" have diffrent areas where it pop up by the diffrent shipd - so its on you to have a look where the special qube was shown later on the ship - It will be not shown ever on the same area - so its at a Wyoming into the mid and on the ISE right and left of the Cimneys.....! (see #FAQ 5 at the thread)
For the FAQ: It do not matter if you use a server-side camo or not - your camo paint will be ever over the server patched, because your skin is loaded after the server paint and so it will be under your skin and hidden by activated own paintjob. Its on the user to have an eye on his temp paints (7/30 days). If they expire and you dont see it you have no disguise bonus ! I will advice to use a perm camo and then a special pintjob. The statement:"Why is my skin not showing up?... make sure your ship is not using in-game camo..." is not correct - your skin is patched ove an existent/inexistend server-side paint every time. But check the right folder, fileformat, and size - also if you have set your picture (pic.png) and activate it (enabled:"1") into your .xml.
"Is there an easier way to tell where the funnels on a ship are located in relation to the template? Not that I've found, sadly. You'll have to eye the distances or just try and paint different bits of the superstructure to find them." --> I use the trick to make diffrent colored stripes over an area with the same in 90° cross-paint - at a point where red crosses blue for example - there is my point...but you will find other ways too if you test it a bit.
At your Steam Folder (see above the adress) you will found at the steamapps-Folder. Into this you found the SteelOcean Folder in what you get your Game files what are all in .upk coded. This is a UnrealEngine File and coded by the DEVs of UnrealEngine like the Phyton .pk & .pyc files in World-of-Warships. Its done for anticheating but a Cheater dont need to decompile these files to make a Cheat. Steel Ocean dont use a anticheat of Steam (VAC) so some a**holes use a simple SDK Cheat-script to hack the Game and get quick their 5 Stars....useless to say what I think about them...
Here's a collection of modding tools you need to start working on UPK files, it might be useful to get into modding for SteelOcean. It can be a time consuming process to get everything you need for modding the UPK files, so I hope this will provide a jumpstart to get to it more quickly.
Extract it anywhere, then read at Google the Info about the program if you don´t know what it do.
Here's a list of tools included: (These tools are made by different people, credits go to them) Notepad++ Text Editor to more easily manipulate/see text data. UPK Decompressor to uncompress UPK files. UPK Extractor to unpack UPK Files. UE Explorer to look through the uncompressed UPK files. HxD HEX Editor to search for HEX values and edit the UPK files. XSHAPE to hack the EXE and make it run uncompressed UPK files. WinMerge to compare text files.
